Ian Smith is the Director of Finance and Service Testing for GTG. He was the driving force behind the establishment and growth of GTG’s service testing division and was the person who made the initial contact with AVS to form AgGenomics.  

He is a Director and Public officer for most companies within the GTG group. He oversees the financial operations of GTG in Melbourne and is also the manager of the group’s HR and OH&S functions. He is also a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. 

He has a degree in Economics from the University of Western Australia, which he obtained in 1984. He commenced his working career as a graduate with the National Australia Bank and was transferred by this company to Melbourne in 1987. Prior to him moving across to biotech was a manager in corporate banking with both the National Australia Bank and Barclays Bank.
